Ghost nets:
S'Agulla at the Mediterranean Diving Show (Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain)

Do you remember the ghost net we reported on October 2016? And that it had the happy ending of being de ser removed on July 2017!!!>> Today, in collaboration with the Catalan Federation of Underwater Activities FECDAS we have the pleasure to meet again at the Mediterranean Diving Show (Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain) to present the event and give the oportunity to the general public to ask the protagonists about it.

The ghost net was a purse seine 100m long abandoned at 38m deep.

To remove the net it requiered the collaboration of:

  • Catalan Fisheries Department (Direcció General de Pesca i Afers Marítims) in collaboration with the University of Barcelona
  • The SCUBA division of the Autonomous police of Catalonia (Unitat Aquàtica dels Mossos d'Esquadra)
  • Fishermen's Guild of Blanes

And in the middle of all this, there we were on board of little MARU!!!

From left to right: Bernat Hereu (University of Barcelona), Guillermo Álvarez (FECDAS), Joan Ylla (Direcció General de Pesca i Afers Marítims), Jordi Marín (Unitat Aquática de Mossos d'Esquadra) and Carol Campillo (S'Agulla)

During this same session the Direcció General de Pesca i Afers Marítims in collaboration with the University of Barcelona informed about the procedure to follow in the case of finding a ghost net. Here you have the link:
